PREIT Sells South Jersey Mall for Less

PREIT has sold the Cumberland Mall in South Jersey to an undisclosed buyer for $45 million, an asset that it bought for $59.5 million in 2005

The Philadelphia real estate investment trust said proceeds from the sale will allow it to pay off its $39 million mortgage on the Vineland mall. A PREIT (NYSE: PEI) spokesperson said the acquirer has previously purchased malls from the company. 

The Cumberland Mall counts Boscov’s, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Petco, and Marshalls among its tenants. 

PREIT also said on Wednesday it closed on the sale of several outparcels surrounding some of its malls.

Most of the parcels were sold to Four Corners Property Trust of California, according to a spokesperson. They include a Red Robin at Francis Scott Key Mall in Frederick, Maryland; a Chuck E. Cheese at Magnolia Mall in Florence, South Carolina; and three parcels at the Mall at Prince Georges in Maryland. A Sears in Moorestown was also sold to Bel Canto Asset Growth Fund to make way for a multifamily development.

Chick-fil-A asking approval for restaurant on West Landis Avenue

VINELAND – The Chick-fil-A fast food chain hopes to open a restaurant adjacent to the Bottino’s Shoprite on West Landis Avenue near South Orchard Road, according to a site plan filed with the city.

The Planning Board was scheduled to hold a hearing on the proposal on Wednesday night. However, the city on Tuesday agreed to a company request for a postponement until March to give it time to consider comments city staff have made on the design.

Discount Grocery Store Opens Location in New Jersey

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market has opened its first New Jersey store.

The California-based discount supermarket chain opened in Delran on Dec. 30. It is located at 4004 Route 130.

The company said it is planning to open four more stores on the East Coast by the end of March. Opening dates and exact locations have yet to be announced, but one will be in Hamilton, replacing a shuttered Kmart.

Bucks County shopping center, Wawa-anchored property in South Jersey sell in separate deals

Two area shopping centers, one anchored by a Wawa and the other shadow anchored by a Home Depot, have traded. 

Valley Forge Investment Corp. sold Warrington Plaza, an 87,581-square-foot retail center at Easton and Street roads in Warrington, for $22.5 million. Realty Resource Capital bought the center that counts Avalon Floor & Tile as a lead tenant and is anchored by a separate 116,340-square-foot Home Depot.

New York Investment Firm Picks Up South Jersey Shopping Center

Irgang Group has purchased a 393,000-square-foot shopping center in Millville, New Jersey, its second retail property acquisition in three months.

A New York-based real estate investment and management firm acquired the shopping center, called Union Lake Crossing, from Jenkintown, Pennsylvania-based Goodman Properties. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.

Built in 2006, Union Lake Crossing is located at the intersection of North Second Street and Union Lake Boulevard. The shopping center is anchored by ShopRite, Kohl’s and Ross. Other notable tenants located at the shopping center include Staples, PetSmart, Famous Footwear, Party City, Five Below, Buffalo Wild Wings, Moe’s Southwest Grill and Sonic. Over 95% of the property’s occupied space is held by national tenants.

Retail roundup: Turn 7 comes to Moorestown Mall, online vendors head for Cherry Hill

MOORESTOWN – The former owner of Forman Mills has opened a discount store in an anchor location at Moorestown Mall.

Rick Forman on Thursday debuted the third and largest outlet for his new concept, Turn 7, at the former site of a Lord + Taylor department store.

The opening came as the shopping center’s owner, Philadelphia-based PREIT, is preparing for the arrival of two online merchants at its nearby Cherry Hill Mall.

Those stores — Warby Parker and Amazon 4-Star  — are expected to open in the first half of 2022, PREIT said.

Warby Parker, which will be new to South Jersey, markets eyeglasses, sunglasses and contacts.

Electric go-kart track, amusement center approved for inside former Kmart store in Berlin.

An indoor electric go-kart track in the now-vacant Kmart store at the Berlin Shopping Center has been approved by the borough’s Planning Board.

Monaco E Karting LLC of Mount Laurel will lease 62,000 square feet of the former 92,000-square-foot Kmart store that closed in February 2014 and sits empty in the largely unused plaza on White Horse Pike, according to the plan approved in a resolution last month.

The amusement center would include 24 electric karts, kids’ electric carts, a track-side café, two party rooms, an arcade, a play zone and a Drivers V.I.P. Club Lounge, according to Monaco E Karting’s application.

Monaco E Karting is owned evenly by Giovanni Visceglia of Old Hickory Court in Mount Laurel and Giovanni Taccardi of Enclave Court in Marlton, according to documents filed with the board.

An ax-throwing component for the center was considered but dropped because of insurance considerations, the application notes.

Board members voted 6-0 in favor of the development at the September meeting, with Mayor Rick Miller and Councilman Andrew Simone abstaining, according to the board’s October 12 resolution. Because the amusement center is not a permitted use in the zone, the board granted Monaco E Karting a use variance and approved its site plans.

The application notes that 1892 Broadway Associates Inc. of Philadelphia owns the property.

Besides adding commercial development to the nearly 21 acres at 328 White Horse Pike, the owner also plans 79 two-story townhouses, with a quarter set aside for affordable housing, according to a 2009 settlement agreement between the property owner and the borough. The townhouse plan was not included with the amusement center proposal.
