A proposal currently under review by the Township zoning board suggests the demolition of the 45-year-old Medport Diner on Route 70 in Medford. In its place, retail stores and an advance-order-only Chipotle Mexican Grill are slated to be constructed.
Should the plans receive approval, the diner will join the ranks of other South Jersey diners that have vanished, reflecting shifts in generational dining preferences and the increasing value of land beneath such establishments.
Despite being a relatively recent addition to New Jersey’s diner scene and tracing its roots back to the suburban expansion along Route 70, the Medport Diner holds a decades-long history.
